Mark A. Hartzband, M.D.
Director, Joint Replacement Service, Hackensack University Medical Center

Dr. Hartzband was one of the first surgeons to perform minimally invasive hip and knee replacements. He has pioneered many of today’s surgical techniques including two-incision hip replacement and quadriceps sparing knee replacement. Dr. Hartzband has helped developed some of the industry’s most advanced orthopaedic implants including a gender knee and hip specifically designed for a female’s anatomy.
In addition to being medical director and founder of Hartzband Center for Hip & Knee Replacement, he serves as Director of the prestigious Joint Replacement Service at Hackensack University Medical Center. Dr. Hartzband lectures nationally and internationally, he has authored numerous articles and book chapters on topics relating to total hip and knee arthroplasty, minimally-invasive techniques and computer assisted surgical navigation.
After receiving his medical degree from McGill University in 1978, Dr. Hartzband completed a two-year general surgery residency followed by an orthopaedic residency at the Montefiore Hospital/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He received his board certification from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1986, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is an active member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.

Harlan B. Levine, M.D.
Attending Physician, Hackensack University Medical Center
Dr. Levine, a partner at Hartzband Center for Hip & Knee Replacement, joined the practice in 2004. He is an Attending Physician at Hackensack University Medical Center.
Dr. Levine earned his medical degree from Cornell University Medical Center where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He completed a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at New York University-Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopaedic Institute where he served as the executive Chief Resident. He then received advanced training as a Fellow in Adult Reconstructive Surgery at Rush-St. Luke’s-Presbyterian Medical Center in Chicago where he focused on minimally invasive surgery and complex reconstruction of the hip and knee.
In 2006, Dr. Levine received his board certification from the American Board of
Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is an active member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
He has authored several publications and book chapters and has lectured at professional society conferences.

Gregg R. Klein, M.D.
Attending Physician, Hackensack University Medical Center
Dr. Klein, a partner at Hartzband Center for Hip & Knee Replacement is an Attending Physician at Hackensack University Medical Center. Before joining Hartzband Center for Hip & Knee Replacement in November 2005, Dr. Klein had a successful practice as an attending physician at New York University Hospital for Joint Disease in New York City.
Dr. Klein graduated from Cornell University. After receiving his medical degree, Dr. Klein completed a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, at which point he was awarded the prestigious Chilton Award which selects a chief resident for outstanding clinical achievement. He then continued his professional training as a Fellow in Adult Reconstructive Surgery at The Rothman Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Klein is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He received his board certification from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in 2006.
In addition to being an accomplished surgeon and clinician, Dr. Klein has written numerous book chapters and articles published in peer-reviewed journals. He has lectured at local and national orthopaedic and joint replacement conferences.
